Wanted: Guest Posts from Local Businesses

I’m more than a little biased.  But I’m okay with that.  Supporting small, local, family businesses is important to me.  I’d like to think that my readers, you, agree with me.  So, with that in mind, I’d like your help.

I am looking to host informative guest posts on anything related to the home by people working and living in the central Maryland area especially those in Carroll, Baltimore, and Howard Counties.  Interior design, landscaping, home insurance, energy efficiency, appliances, furniture, paint, artwork, home health, home safety, and exterior design are just some topics that I would be interested in hosting.

So, if you are interested in some free, online, targeted advertising that people read (my blog averages about 200 readers per day!) send me an email (katlin@nullmercercarpetone.com) with your post attached in a Word file.  Please have it at least 250 words, focused on being informative, and include a short introduction about you and your business.  Plus, if there are any images you would like to see included in the post, please attach them to the email as well.  Note: I allow two in-text links to a website of your choice so take advantage of a great way to get people to visit your business’s website!
As always, if there are any questions (or ideas), please let me know! Katlin@nullMercerCarpetOne.com Facebook.com/MercerCarpetOne Twitter.com/MercerFloors

Local Guest Posts Wanted

Hello and welcome to Let’s Talk About Floors!

As a small, local, family run business, we at Mercers are a little biased.  We think us small, local businesses need to stick together.

So, if you are with a small, local business that works in and/or around the Howard and Carroll Counties, listen up!

I’d like to host guest posts by you.  My blog receives approximately 200 visitors per day and is written for homeowners in the Central Maryland area.  Why not take advantage of a free advertising source?  All topics need to be informative and some how related to the home.  Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!

Posts should include a paragraph about you/your company and should be somewhere around 500-700 words.  You can also include up to 3 in text links of your choice and pictures of your choice.

All posts will be scheduled 1st come 1st serve on Wednesday mornings.  In addition to being posted live here, I will also share links to the post on my personal and professional online profiles.  I ask that you do the same.  And, if you have a website of your own, it would also be beneficial to link to the post there.

Please send your ideas to my email – Katlin@nullMercerCarpetOne.com – including a brief introduction about you and your company (this can be the final or rough intro that will be in your post).

Have Fun,

Katlin Farrell

Cutting Corners Isn’t Our Style

It doesn’t happen often, but I did recently get someone who insisted that I cut corners on her carpet project.  She wanted me to turn and piece carpet together.

Here’s why we have not, do not, and never will cut that particular corner (and many others):

  • Visual appeal is lowered (and that effect increases over time)
  • Performance is lowered (again, that effect increases over time)
  • Integrity is lowered

Our stance is simple: our name is always attached to any project we help with.  It might be in your home, your place of business, but it is our floor.  So, why would we want to do anything sub-par?

We’d rather walk away from a project than cut any corner.  There are even certain flooring products and manufacturers we will not work with!

When my grandfather started Mercers, he chose to stick by his guns.  He was going to find the best way to do things, not just a good way, and that was the way he would always do it.  My parents chose to stand by his decisions when Mercers became their responsibility.  And I am proud of what my family has accomplished.  In today’s world, it is difficult to have a multi-generational family business that is able to stand by is principles and be able to follow through with its intentions like we’ve been able to do ever since 1959.

Here is my promise to you, a promise that my grandfather made, my parents made, and all the members of the Mercer Team will continue to make in the future:
  • I will help you find the best product for you, no matter what the situation
  • I will make sure that it is installed the best way possible
  • I will make sure the best materials are used
  • I will be with you ever step of the way so you can make informed decisions and feel assured that we will follow through
  • I will make sure you know how to care for your investment into the future
  • When we make a mistake (we are human, mistakes will happen), I will make sure that it is fixed
  • No one in Maryland can beat my value. Period.

I would like to extend an invitation to you.  If you are working on a home remodeling project of any scope,  please ask me any questions you may have.

If it is related to design, I can provide my personal opinion with my training and background.

If it is related to any flooring work, I have the experience of Mercers to help me answer (and I’ll tell you how we would do it); same with stair refacing, custom tile work, railings, or countertops.

My email is Katlin@nullMercerCarpetOne.com and my office number is 410-480-0087.

We Have a Wonderful Family

We have a wonderful team here at Mercers and (obviously) family is important to us.  As you know the original Mercers are my grandparents (now happily retired to sunny Florida and greatly missed up here), you’ve been introduced to a few of our flooring design consultants, but you might not know about our installers.

Our newest installer has been with our company for seven years.  He’s the leader of our vinyl installation crew and, when he was in school, used to help his father install vinyl flooring products for us.  He does absolutely wonderful work and always has a smile on his face.  No matter if the job is a straight forward rolled good installation or if it is a highly detailed and patterned luxury vinyl tile installation, his work is beautiful and durable.

Our carpet crew leader has been with us for over a decade as well and his work is superb.  Double miters, upholstery, and seaming carpets with patterns, loops, or even woven backing does not faze him.  When visiting a job site after install, I like to check the seam work.  And there have been countless occasions where I knew exactly where the seam was supposed to be and, for the life of me, could not find it!  The crew is friendly, courteous, efficient, and masters at their trade.

The leader of our hardwood/laminate/bamboo/cork installation crew is another 2nd generation employee.  He also helped his father install floors for us while he was in high school; the day he graduated he applied (and relieved) a full time position with us over 2 decades ago.   And, he recently brought on his son as a full time assistant.  All of our installers are perfectionists, but this crew takes that professionalism and attention to detail to a whole new level.  As an example, when laying out boards before installing them, the crew plans out which board goes where so variations in graining and color are mixed precisely.

And then there is our Problem Solver, as we like to call him.  The leader of our ceramic and stone installation crew, he’s been with us for over a decade now.  During that time period we quickly realized the gem we found.  Not only is he a master craftsman when installing ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone, but he is also a highly skilled carpenter giving him the ability to make custom trim pieces if we have an odd situation and help out with other things that our outside our normal realm of expertise.  Plus, he’s a pleasure to work with.

Hopefully you’ve already heard about at least one of our crews or their outstanding work.  If not, just ask around.  Throughout the industry, they have some of the best reputations.  Our crews plus our dedication to only using the best installation materials, tools, and methods have our installations famous for their quality and durability.
